The Atlanta Lawyer Public Interest Law Update: September/October 2021

The Public Interest Law Section is off to a busy start this bar year. In the wake of the Supreme Court dissolution of the Centers for Disease Control Eviction Moratorium, PILS convened a panel of housing experts on September 14, 2021 to discuss what the end of the moratorium will mean for metro Atlanta renters and landlords, and how attorneys can help the tens of thousands of Atlanta area residents now facing homelessness. For the rest of the bar year, our Section plans to find ways to engage with potential pro bono volunteers in our “new normal” and to support our public interest lawyer members, many of whom have experienced vicarious trauma as result of serving their clients in crisis over the past 18 months. Finally, we will continue the evaluation of our bylaws through an anti-racist lens, a project that we began 2020. Stay tuned for our coming events!
