Each year, the Bankruptcy Section presents the David W. Pollard Award to a member who best exemplifies the highest standards of professionalism and ethics in the bankruptcy practice.  On May 21, 2021, the Bankruptcy Section honored recipient M. Regina Thomas (Clerk of Court, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Northern District of Georgia) with the 2020/2021 David W. Pollard Award. Thomas has exemplified these traits at the helm of the Clerk’s Office for the past decade and, especially, over the course of the past year. 

On June 30, 2021, the Bankruptcy Section in conjunction with the U.S. Northern District of Georgia Bankruptcy Court hosted via Zoom the 2021 Virtual Summer Associate Day. The event was well attended by over 42 summer associates and judicial interns coming from nine local law firms, trustee offices, and judicial chambers. The attendees were provided with the opportunity to observe video recordings of hearings before Hon. Wendy L. Hagenau (Chief Judge, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Northern District of Georgia) which was followed by Q&A breakout sessions with Hon. Jeffery W. Cavender (U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Northern District of Georgia); Hon. Paul W. Bonapfel (U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Northern District of Georgia); and Hon. Mary Grace Diehl (Ret.) (U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Northern District of Georgia).

The Bankruptcy Section is busy planning a number of programs for the coming year to keep you informed and engaged. Below is a preview of some upcoming events:

• September – CLE seminar focused on bankruptcy issues involving the hospitality sector 
• October – Fall Social
