2021 has been a busy year for the Privacy & Cybersecurity Section, as this is the Section’s first full year in existence. The Section was
founded in fall of 2020 by Stephen Bush, Senior Counsel (Bodker, Ramsey, Andrews, Winograd & Wildstein), and since then the
Section has hosted numerous panels, in addition to working with the GA Bar’s Privacy & Technology Section on the annual Privacy and
Technology Law Institute, which took place on February 18, 2021.

On February 18th, Alex Panos and Stephen Bush organized a panel of speakers, consisting of Rose Jones, Kim Roberts and Jenni Weaver (King and Spalding), and Vice President of Privacy Programs and CPO Nikole Davenport (HITRUST), to discuss technology in the age of privacy. This event was well-attended even while taking place concurrently with another event, with over 80 participants joining in to watch.

On April 20th, Chair Stephen Bush moderated a panel for the Atlanta Bar Association’s “Tech Tuesdays.” Speakers were privacy governance consultant Heather Kuhn (Cox Communications) and Senior Data Privacy leader Mae-Beth Magno (Northrup-Grumman), and Nikole Davenport reprising her role, who discussed additional topics in privacy and technology – matters that all lawyers should know. This event was well-attended with over 40 participants, consisting of both members and nonmembers of the Section.

On May 13th, the Section contributed to the Atlanta Bar’s “CLE By the Hour” sessions by presenting a panel covering hot topics in data
privacy and cybersecurity. This panel featured Stephen Bush, Scott Zweigel (Parker, Hudson, Rainer & Dobbs LLP), Shannon Sprinkle
(Copeland, Stair, Kingma and Lovell, LLP), and Dorian Simmons (Alston & Bird). The Privacy & Cybersecurity Section has more in store for future activities in addition to presenting panels, including building a website featuring updates and insights in the world of privacy and cybersecurity, as well as creating a program for students to get more involved in the areas of privacy and cybersecurity.
The Section is currently seeking sponsors for upcoming panels as well as featured positions on the upcoming website for the Section.
