The Atlanta Bar Association’s Women in the Profession Section is dedicated to furthering the practice and perception of law, with a focus on issues unique to women in the practice. Throughout the year, the Women in the Profession Section (WIP) hosts networking events during which women lawyers can interact and develop support systems. WIP also organizes continuing education courses, community service opportunities, and other substantive programs. Here is a look at some of the events we have held so far this year, plus programs to look forward to this spring:

On January 30th, WIP hosted a luncheon CLE on professionalism. It took place at Ri Ra in Midtown Atlanta. Karlise Grier, Executive Director of the Chief Justice’s Commission on Professionalism, led an excellent discussion on gender, communication, and professional respect.

On February 27th, WIP teamed up with our sponsor Exponent for the CLE Presentation “The Scoop on Scooters: Federal and State Laws, Regulations, Safety, and Potential Bumps in the Road for Electric Scooters” at Greenberg Traurig. The event featured a panel of attorneys, expert witnesses, and other special guests from the City of Atlanta and Lime Scooters.

It has been a busy board year so far, but there are plenty more events to attend this spring! On March 26th, WIP and Atlanta Legal Aid Society’s Health Law Unit are co-hosting the CLE presentation “Wills and Advance Directives for Low Income Clients.” This event, part of the Atlanta Bar Association’s Pro Bono March Madness series, will be held at the State Bar of Georgia.

The Women in the Profession section is also planning another networking social in April – stay tuned for details! We will be participating in the Susan G. Komen of Atlanta More Than Pink fundraising walk on May 4th. Also, WIP will honor a Woman of Achievement at our annual awards luncheon in June. (We are accepting award nominations through March 20th).
