The Atlanta Bar Association’s Women in the Profession Section is dedicated to furthering the practice and perception of law, with a focus on issues unique to women in the practice. Throughout the year, the Women in the Profession Section (WIP) hosts networking events during which women lawyers can interact and develop support systems. WIP also organizes continuing education courses, community service opportunities, and other substantive programs. Here is a look at what the section has been up to this summer, plus programs we to look forward to this board year:

The Women in the Profession Sections kicked off its 14th board year with the Legal Runaround on September 7th at John Howell Park. Our section helped sponsor the event; proceeds from the fundraising 5K helped support the Atlanta Bar Foundation and the Atlanta Police Foundation. Two members of the WIP team earned awards at the race: Member at Large Talis Trevino  (Locke Lord) won the Top Overall Women’s Score and Chair-Elect Sarah White (Atlanta Legal Aid Society) won Fastest in her Age Group. Way to go, ladies!

Later this month, WIP is planning a networking social for our members and friends of the section. Stay tuned for more details. In October, we are partnering with JAMS Mediation for our annual program on mediation-related issues. This year’s theme is “From the Bench to JAMS: The Role of Women as Jurists, Mediators, and Arbitrators.” That breakfast CLE program will take place October 22nd at One Atlantic Center. More information and registration will soon be available on the Atlanta Bar website. Also, WIP is very excited to be involved in a national community service project related to the 19th Amendment and Suffrage Movement. WIP is finalizing details and we plan to announce this project and accompanying service event soon!

WIP is off to a strong start, but there are plenty more events, programs, and community service opportunities this board year.
