The Atlanta Lawyer Judicial Update: October/November 2020

The Judicial Section held its first event of the Bar year via Zoom on September 22, the "Judges' Open Forum Zoom Discussion of COVID and the Court System." Over two dozen judges from local municipal, juvenile, state, superior, and appellate courts, as well as judges from various local federal courts, spent lunchtime engaged in frank, challenging, and helpful discussion about how to best hold court amidst the evolving challenges of COVID-19. The Section was pleased to have litigator Elizabeth Fite (President-Elect of the State Bar of Georgia) and a member of the Statewide COVID-19 Task Force, act as moderator for this wide-ranging conversation.

Hon. Nora Polk (Magistrate Court of DeKalb County) perfectly captured the shared sentiment of the judges in attendance with her comment, "We're going to have to do justice differently, but we'll get it done!" The Judicial Section is planning a panel discussion in late November, open to all Atlanta Bar members, on this same subject.
