In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Estate Planning & Probate (“EP&P”) Section offers valuable continuing legal education opportunities to our Section members through monthly CLE webinars, in lieu of the Section’s usual breakfast meetings and other in-person events. After kicking off its webinar series with programs in May and June, the Section continued the series throughout the summer and into the fall with programs featuring the following speakers and topics:

On July 22, 2020, EP&P Section members welcomed James M. (“Jim”) McCarten (Burr & Forman, LLP), presenting: “Beyond PPP and EIDL Loans: Getting the Most Cash From Uncle Sam for Your Clients and Your Firm.” McCarten explained the different programs, the qualification requirements, the payback terms, and the ways in which the programs are affecting business and law firm operations. On August 12, 2020, the EP&P Section welcomed back Professor Cassady V. (“Cass”) Brewer (Georgia State University College of Law). Professor Brewer spoke on “Georgia’s New Benefit Corporation Statute.” The new statue, signed into law on July 29, 2020, with an effective date of January 1, 2021, offers a legal structure for corporations that wish to have social or environmental purposes, in addition to their normal business purposes, in their articles of incorporation. On September 9, 2020, the Section will welcome Nikola R. (“Nick”) Djuric (Djuric Spratt, P.A.) and T. • On October 14, 2020, at 12:00 p.m., David Handler of Kirkland & Ellis, LLP (Chicago, Illinois) will present: “From Here to Eternity: Designing Trusts for the Long Haul.”

• On November 18, 2020, at 12:00 p.m., Theodore S. Eittreim (Eittreim Martin Cutler, LLC) will discuss “Domestic Relations Pitfalls for Estate Planners.”

• On December 9, 2020, at 12:00 p.m., Christopher V. Benner (Bennett Thrasher, LLP), will present: “I Made It Over the Wall, Now What? Worldwide Transfer Tax Issues to Consider for New U.S. Residents and Domiciliaries.”
